I wrote a little diary yesterday, not in defense of Don Imus, but in favor or a more critical, non-polarized investigation of what the comments say about society and what our reactions say about us. For this I was, surprise, surprise, called republican-lite, obtuse, not-a-true-progressive, etc ... All of which seemed to confirm my initial assumptions that liberal voices have been largely marginalized, first by Republicans who effectively co-opted the center and now by liberals themselves who so shun any "retreat" back towards the center that they will cut off any discourse even leaning that way.
And then today I find a diary on the Rec list implying, though not explicityly stating, that diaries like mine somehow undermine the progressive values of the dKos community. And while the diary itself was tastefully written the rush to jump on the progressive bandwagon in the comments section, by continuing the one side, highly polarizing debate about so called standards of decency, left ME more than a little disturbed.
